WOOT!!!  After a covid hiatus, one of the coolest events in Mississippi Mills (or the world!) is BACK! And Wayne Rostad too! No matter what the weather, locals and visitors of all ages wander down to Mill Street in Almonte, to the stage at the bottom of the street. The street is closed off, usually with some hot chocolate vendors, and many shops stay open. It is a great small town night.  Dress for standing in the cold though!

An initiative to reduce the isolation artists experienced during Covid, the installation is composed of 3 sections: left panel was created by Line Dufour, referencing the contemporary practice of tapestry; middle of irregular shapes contributed by weavers worldwide; end panel was woven by visiting participants. As Dufour receives each weaver’s shape it is documented and posted to the project’s social media. To date, 864 shapes have been received from 43 countries, and a total of about 520 people have participated. The installation continues to expand as it accepts woven pieces on an ongoing basis. Vernissage: Oct 1, 2-4pm.

Nov 1 - Dec 18, Tue-Sun, 1-4pm. People and Place grew out of a desire to support people in working on a project together yet apart during the early days of the pandemic. People and Place pays homage to the places where we feel connected to one another, and the land from which we draw inspiration and livelihood.  The tapestry was designed and assembled by lead artist Genevieve Townsend and is made up of 56 pieces completed by 50 creative people from across the Ottawa Valley. The tapestry recreates a map of the Ottawa Valley – its rivers, lakes, streams and watersheds – with each of the 56 pieces representing a section of the map.

It's like a Santa Claus parade... but lit up! It starts at the John Levi Community Ctr (aka the Almonte Arena), up to Mill St, down (hopefully not down in the construction hole!) to Main St (aka Ottawa St.), up to Martin St (at the lights), right onto Martin/Queen/Bridge St. and back to the arena. Scouts are collecting food donations. Follow the parade back to the arena for hotdogs & hot choc & free skate!

An initiative to reduce the isolation artists experienced during Covid, the installation is composed of 3 sections: left panel was created by Line Dufour, referencing the contemporary practice of tapestry; middle of irregular shapes contributed by weavers worldwide; end panel was woven by visiting participants. As Dufour receives each weaver’s shape it is documented and posted to the project’s social media. To date, 864 shapes have been received from 43 countries, and a total of about 520 people have participated. The installation continues to expand as it accepts woven pieces on an ongoing basis. Violence against Women: What Now, Lanark County?

[Meet at the mosaic behind the OTH.] An evening of presentations by folks involved in the recent Renfrew County Coroner’s inquest into the 2015 murders of 3 women by the same man. Lawyer Pam Cross's presentation will be followed by a panel moderated by Interval House director Erin Lee, with Superintendent Derrick Needham OPP, Julie Lalonde of Renfrew County Sexual Assault, and others involved in this first-ever rural-focused inquest. The Coroner’s Jury and Inquest resulted in 86 recommendations for a broad range of actions. This event is in support of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women & Children. An initiative to reduce the isolation artists experienced during Covid, the installation is composed of 3 sections: left panel was created by Line Dufour, referencing the contemporary practice of tapestry; middle of irregular shapes contributed by weavers worldwide; end panel was woven by visiting participants. As Dufour receives each weaver’s shape it is documented and posted to the project’s social media. To date, 864 shapes have been received from 43 countries, and a total of about 520 people have participated. The installation continues to expand as it accepts woven pieces on an ongoing basis. Vernissage: Oct 1, 2-4pm.

People and Place pays homage to the places where we feel connected to one another, and the land from which we draw inspiration and livelihood.  The tapestry was designed and assembled by lead artist Genevieve Townsend and is made up of 56 pieces completed by 50 creative people from across the Ottawa Valley. The tapestry recreates a map of the Ottawa Valley – its rivers, lakes, streams and watersheds – with each of the 56 pieces representing a section of the map.
