Almonte Song Circle Collective
Almonte Song Circle Collective
A group of Ottawa Valley musicians meet Thursday evenings for a weekly acoustic session. From 6-7pm they try out new songs for & with each other, then 7-8pm they'll play familiar cover tunes & invite people to sing along. New musicians welcome! “What we ask of new musicians is that you be able to get through a single song or songs from start to finish in a musical way. Playing just one song in an evening is perfectly OK, but if you can’t sing on key, can’t keep your instrument tuned, or riff all over someone else’s song to the point of distraction, we sort that out." - Nathan Sloniowski.

Violence against Women: What Now, Lanark County?
Lanark County Interval House
[Meet at the mosaic behind the OTH.] An evening of presentations by folks involved in the recent Renfrew County Coroner’s inquest into the 2015 murders of 3 women by the same man. Lawyer Pam Cross's presentation will be followed by a panel moderated by Interval House director Erin Lee, with Superintendent Derrick Needham OPP, Julie Lalonde of Renfrew County Sexual Assault, and others involved in this first-ever rural-focused inquest. The Coroner’s Jury and Inquest resulted in 86 recommendations for a broad range of actions. Tickets: $10 at TicketsPlease.ca. Free tickets will be made available upon request: email whatnowlanarkcounty@gmail.com. This event is in support of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women & Children. The idea is to learn from the inquest, look at the services in Lanark County, see what needs to be done to enhance the safety of women and children, and — most importantly — to stop male violence. Presented by LCIH, Stir It Up Collective, and the Lanark County Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Program.

The tapestry was designed and assembled by lead artist Genevieve Townsend and is made up of 56 pieces completed by 50 creative people from across the Ottawa Valley. The tapestry recreates a map of the Ottawa Valley – its rivers, lakes, streams and watersheds – with each of the 56 pieces representing a section of the map.

Exhibition: People & Place
Nov 1 - Dec 18, Tue-Sun, 1-4pm. People and Place grew out of a desire to support people in working on a project together yet apart during the early days of the pandemic. People and Place pays homage to the places where we feel connected to one another, and the land from which we draw inspiration and livelihood.

Lecture: From Victim to Activist – 60s Scoop Survivor
Learning Again in Almonte
Speaker: Colleen Hele-Cardinal / sîpihkopiyesiw shares her journey as a survivor of the Sixties Scoop. Colleen was just a baby when she was forcibly removed from the care of her mother, a residential school survivor, and adopted to Sault Ste.Marie, where she was raised by a white family, along with her two blood sisters. She tells her poignant story of abuse and victimization. Dealing with the generational trauma and confusion about her place in the world left Colleen in a dark place but she became determined that this would not be the sum, not only of her story but the stories of so many victims of the Indigenous Survivors of Canada’s child welfare system. She will share with you how that determination led her to her role today, bringing survivors together into a new community, for healing, celebrating and activism. Register.
