Toy and Collectible Show & Sale
United Way Lanark County is hosting the annual Toy and Collectible Show and Sale at the Almonte Civitan Hall on Saturday, February 4 from 10am to 2pm. Over thirty vendors and exhibitors will be on hand with: die cast and tin toys, cars, tractors, trucks and trains, dolls and bears, ship models, comic books, action figures, electronic game cartridges, and so much more! There truly is something for every member of the family.
Admission is $5 at the door, with children under 12 free. Want to have early access to find the best deals? Come for 9am and pay $10 for this advantage! Funds raised from the show will fund programs that fall under the All That Kids Can Be focus area, which helps children and youth reach their full potential.
There will be door prize draws throughout the day for attendees, and the Almonte Civitan Club will have their canteen open for the event. Make it a family affair, stay for lunch, and share memories of your childhood with the next generation! For more information, visit lanarkunitedway.com .
Celebrating Canada 150 in Lanark
Join the Lanark Museum in “Celebrating Canada 150” in story, music and dance! On Sunday, February 5 from 1:30 to 3:30, local dancers, cloggers, musicians and storytellers will be on hand at the Lanark Civitan Hall to entertain you. Many items describing some of the history of the Lanark Highlands over the past 150 years will be on display, and the event will also feature refreshments and a silent auction. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and will be available at the door or by calling Jeannie Kelso at 278–1391. Proceeds from this event will go towards hiring a summer student and enhancing the displays at the Lanark Museum.
Fire and Ice and Music and Dance
Perth Tourism is pleased to present the 3rd annual Fire and Ice event planned for Saturday, February 18.
Families are invited to a free swim at the Perth Indoor Pool from 1 to 3pm and a free skate at the Perth Arena from 6 to 8pm. They are also invited to visit the Perth Outfitters’ new Wooded Skate Trail — visit perthoutfitters.com for more details.
After an invigorating day of outdoor play, the enchantment continues at 8pm at the Crystal Palace as things heat up with an evening ice bar featuring Perth Brewery and Top Shelf Distilleries, an outdoor bonfire and dancing with music by Riq Turner Band — welcoming everyone 19 years of age and up! Watch a professional fire dancer at 9pm, followed by fireworks lighting up the sky over the Tay Basin at 9:30pm. Music and dancing will continue until midnight.
Tickets ($10 in person, $12 online) are on sale now at the Perth Tourism Centre, 11 Gore Street East. For details, call 267–1947 or visit ticketsplease.ca . Get your tickets early to avoid disappointment as this event sold out last year!
Family Weekend Book Sale
Attention all book lovers and bargain hunters! The Friends of the Perth Union Library will hold their next semi-annual Book Sale on Saturday, February 18, as part of the Family Day weekend. Doors open at the library at 10am and there will be a large variety of fiction, non-fiction and children’s books available, with many treasures to be found. All sales are by donation only.
The Friends of the Perth Union Library was formed in 1993 as a volunteer advocacy group to promote awareness and appreciation of our local library. The Friends raise funds to support improvements to the library’s collections and services, and promote the library, its resources and upcoming programs at community outreach events. In addition, the Friends have advocated on behalf of the library to local policy makers and community members.
Over the past five years, the Friends of the Library have raised more than $17,000 for the Library through book sales, bake sales and raffles. The money raised has gone to support the library’s Summer Literacy Program, furnishings for the Children’s section, author readings, and prizes for various library contests. More recently, the Friends of the Library have been able to assist in funding the new signage as part of the library’s December 2016 renovations.
If you would like to support the book sale by donating your well-loved books, you may bring them to the library from now until February 17, during library hours. If you are interested in becoming a Friend of the Library, please contact Martina Flanagan at 267–4494 or friendsperthlibrary@gmail.com .
