The Ten Collective Third Annual Exhibit of Paintings - theHumm March 2020
In April 2018, ten Mississippi Mills artists held their first show, expecting 500 people to visit. By the end of the two-day exhibit, more than 1,200 had attended the show and visited the town. In 2019 attendance increased to 1,600. Visitors came from Mississippi Mills, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City and Toronto. The artists were overwhelmed and sold many of their paintings. It was also very busy weekend for the local restaurants and stores.
“The overwhelming success of the last two shows and the demand for our work convinced us to mount a third exhibit this year,” explains The Ten Collective founder Eileen Hennemann. “We are very excited about sharing our work with each other’s networks and about holding the exhibit once again in a National Historic Site of Canada, the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum in Almonte.” The show will be held at the museum, located at 3 Rosamond St. E. in Almonte, on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5 from 10am to 5pm both days. Admission and parking are free.
The Ten Collective artists are Amelia Ah You, Jill Halliday, Eileen Hennemann, Rosemary Leach, Marina May Raike, Katherine McNenly, Kaija Savinainen Mountain and Lily Swain, along with two special guest artists, Charles Spratt and Mária Moldován.
This third annual show will display all new work, with select paintings available for purchase. It will feature a variety of styles in acrylic, oil, watercolour and mixed media, with no two artists alike. Visitors can enjoy the show and a day visiting the area, stopping to enjoy a coffee or lunch, browsing through unique and interesting stores and seeing some of the natural sites that abound. New visitors to the museum can experience the history of the woolen industry in the Mississippi River Valley, and also get information about the exhibits and educational events held at the museum throughout the year.
Almonte’s HFT Donuts is supplying their famous donuts each morning, and tastings of Cartwright Springs beer and Dairy Distillery’s Vodkow vodka will be offered mid-afternoon. Several other sponsors, including Fulton’s Pancake House & Sugar Bush, are also involved in the cross-promotion of this event and will be profiled during the weekend. Hennemann Stanley Design developed the trademark, branding, marketing material and promotion.
Cheque, cash or e-transfer is preferred when purchasing The Ten Collective paintings, however some artists use Square. Purchased paintings can be picked up between 4–5pm on Sunday unless other arrangements have been made with the artist.
