The brainchild of retired Carleton University Chemistry Professor Don Wiles in 2004, the Almonte Lectures covered an eclectic range of topics. In 2015, Warren Thorngate, Glenda Jones and Mel Turner took over the organizational duties, until the end of 2022. At some point longer courses were added to the repertoire, called Learning in Almonte. 2023 sees a new group organizing lectures and courses, with the group called Learning Again in Almonte. They are a volunteer-run non-profit offering a variety of learning opportunities to the community. In keeping with past tradition, any money remaining at the end of each year will be donated to local charities, particularly the Mississippi Mills Public Library.
