MVTM Show: Material World on the Mississippi
By the turn of the 19th century, there were 10 woolen mills in Almonte, which employed upwards of 120 people, with the Rosamond Woolen Company Mill employing just over 400. Approximately 1,600 of Almonte's 3,000 residents worked in a textile mill. This exhibition will illustrate this rich history and the manufacturing process, with new interactive and hands-free videos where visitors will see and hear first-hand accounts of the industry from former textile mill workers from the region.

Meet the Artist: Michael Neelin
Michael Neelin has been exploring and sharing the natural beauty and rich architectural heritage of the Ottawa Valley through his painstaking graphite pencil drawings for over three decades. “The common thread in my work is the joy of interpreting our natural and built worlds, finding unique visual experiences where most would never think to look. At each step, the seeker discovers order out of chaos and moments out of time.” To arrange to see the exhibition at other times, please contact Wayne Stryde.

Almonte Lectures: Why the Best Person Rarely Wins
Almonte Lectures
Speaker: Warren Thorngate. Enrol for Zoom. Contests are popular means of deciding who will receive medals, cash prizes, jobs, scholarships, attention, emergency care, & other limited resources. Most assume that fair contests assure “the best person wins.” Warren will demonstrate why this assumption is frequently false and how contest evolution breeds corruption & harm, then speculate how contests can be improved by changing the rules of their game.

Folkus: Julian Taylor w/Catriona Sturton
Folkus Concert Series
Julian Taylor is a songwriter at the top of his game, garnering a recent CFMA Solo Artist of the year. Taylor is an artist who defies genre, but this latest recording takes us back to his roots, evoking his childhood soundtrack of Lightfoot, The Band, and his grandfather’s classic country records, while being true to his own path as leader of multiple bands. Of West Indian and Mohawk descent, Taylor first made his name as frontman of Staggered Crossing in the early 2000s. Catriona Sturton is a multi-instrumentalist tour de force, bringing a sometimes tender, sometimes comic sensibility to her songs about mysteries, the blues, cats, and late night calls.
