Delta Harvest Festival - theHumm September 2019
Located at the south end of the Township of Rideau Lakes, the village of Delta is a bustling little community. Just a short drive from several larger centres, Delta will take you back to a simpler time, surrounded by rich natural heritage. With Upper Beverley Lake flowing through the Mill to the Mill Creek and then onto Lower Beverley Lake, the village is a popular tourist destination and a summer retreat for many. It boasts the Old Stone Mill National Historic Site and Lower Beverley Lake Township Park, along with many heritage homes — some built during the mid-1800s — that help to maintain its quaint beauty. A walking tour and cycling brochure can be picked up at the Old Stone Mill.
Delta’s Jubilee Business Block is going through a major renovation and restoration, and right across the street plans are underway for a Waterfront Development Project that includes better docking and will be accessible to all. With “Hamlet Vitality” on the top of the Township’s Strategic Plan, this area will give a real sense of place to the village. Residents are very proud to be part of the process and of all that this community can accomplish.
The village hosts several major events throughout the year, with the help of many volunteers. April brought the 52nd Delta Maple Syrup Festival, July celebrated the 189th Delta Fair, and September 28 brings the 5th Delta Harvest Festival — a perfect day to visit the village! This community event starts with a harvest breakfast at Delta United Church at 8am, then features events at several venues in town. At the Old Stone Mill you can purchase flour, breads, baking and preserves. There will also be blacksmith and grinding demos, a bread baking contest, and live music by Run of the Mill Fiddlers. Over at the Delta Fairgrounds there will be craft and food vendors, a car show, entertainment and a harvest dance at 9pm. You can tour the Delta Firehall Museum and visit the Old Town Hall, where you’ll find a BBQ, book launch and used book sale, fun kids’ activities from 9:30am to 4pm, and a Harvest Supper. For more details and directions, visit deltamill.org or call 928–2584.
Then on Fridays and Saturdays from November 29 to December 21, Delta will host their 15th annual Celebrating the Season, where thousands of lights are strung throughout the village and in Lower Beverley Lake Park — a sight to behold!
For more information about these and other events, please visit deltaontario.com . Come for a visit, and stay for a while!

Anyone who’s ever heard a farmer’s daughter joke knows that the cultural differences between the country and the city are fertile ground for humour. When rural rubs up against urban, friendly gibes seem to sprout like snap peas in springtime.
That’s where the play Ed’s Garage begins. But at its heart, this smart, good-natured comedy about rural life is as thought-provoking as it is laughter-inducing.
Opening on September 19 at the Studio Theatre,......
The nights are getting shorter, the leaves will start to change soon, and that can mean only one thing: it’s time for the annual murder mystery at The Station Theatre! This year’s show is Death by Design by Rob Urbinati. It’s part murder mystery, part farce, part love story, and all entertaining! Samuel French asks and answers the question: “What happens when you mix the brilliant wit of Noël Coward with the intricate plotting of Agatha Christie? Set during a weekend in an English country mano......

Quick: what do these five downtown Almonte buildings all have in common: the Victoria Mill, the Thoburn Mill, the Old Post Office, 65 Mill Street and 78 Mill Street?
If you knew that they were all buildings that have been renovated over the last 26 years by the Almonte Heritage Redevelopment Group, allow yourself a smug smile. What you might also know, if you have been reading the Millstone recently, is that these five buildings have been shortlisted for a national heritage award.......
